Roaches

"Roaches,' written by, Alejandra Ramirez uses roaches to serve as a symbol for multiple ideas. One being, the infested one bedroom apartment my dad raised me in. They symbolize not only him, but his fall into addiction and the ease with which we can become a product of our environment.

Roaches find their way in and out

of my sleeping mouth.

Consuming me.

Through my ligaments,

And into my mind.

Scattering their seedlings,

Planting their thoughts.

Empathy becomes an invasion.

Quietly,

I become lost in the swarm.
