Almond Milk

The spring of your youth,

Never to see summer.

You’ve been gone so long.

With each day I’m learning how to mourn.

Your love is just a whisper of a memory.

It’s hard to see the impact on our family.

I ran away, but my love for you grows.

I hope you can see how much.

I hope it shows.

Amanda wrote Almond Milk after the tragic loss of her niece, Chloe, who was taken in a car accident just before her 18th birthday. Chloe was always trying to convince Amanda to try her favourite chocolate almond milk, and she always refused. This poem is Amanda’s tribute to her — a small way of honouring her memory and the sweetness she brought into their family.
